Dr. Roman Arteaga

MVZ

Dr. Roman Arteaga has an 8 year old Schnoodle who loves to look out the window and bark at passing dogs. He enjoys interacting with animals because they are so authentic. In his precious spare time he enjoys swimming and home improvement projects. He has even participated in 28 triathlons.

Dr. Richard Katz

DVM

Dr. Katz's uniquely name cat, Kitty, suffers from multiple personality disorder (his words); sweet and cuddly one moment and ready to bite you in the next. His love of animals started at an early age, his room was like a mini zoo. He went into a profession in which he looked forward to going to work and considers every day a blessing.

His love of birds has given him the nickname of a "Craniac" and he is often out photographing birds and volunteering for the Nature Conservancy, Audubon Society, and International Crane Foundation. He has also been cycling since 1975 and has competed in ultramathon events for 20 years, along with collecting and restoring vintage bicycles.

Jennifer

Veterinary Nursing Staff

Jennifer is the human to 2 feline companions, Ziggy and Sassy, adopted from the animal shelter, as well as a Quaker Parakeet named Chico. Her original desire to become a veterinarian is what prompted her to start in Vet Med in high school at Highland Animal Hospital, which is where she continues to work. She enjoys reading in her spare time when not taking care of the whims of her children. She was a self-proclaimed dog person until welcoming her current sibling kitties into the fold.

Lisa

Veterinary Nursing Staff

Lisa has 7 dogs - 6 Tibetan Spaniels and a Bullmastiff - 5 birds, and 2 tortoises. Her love of animals is what inspired her to start in Vet Med. She shows dogs in her spare time and works with exotic animals. In her lifetime she has always enjoyed the company of at least 1 dog and various other pets.

Julie

Veterinary Nursing Staff

Julie's dog, Noah, altered her Public Relations and Marketing career and flung her into Vet Med 20 years ago. It was one of the best decisions she has ever made. Every "friend" that enters our practice becomes part of her "family".

Front Desk Staff

Kim is the pet parent of a Pitbull/Doberman mix name Opie. She has always had a love of animals leading her to pursue a career in Vet Med. She has had an array of different pets throughout her life.

Amber M.

Front Desk Staff / Practice Manager

Amber's canine family member Evie was adopted in 2018. Her family also has guinea pigs. She started in Vet Med in high school due to her interest in animal rights and has been at Highland Animal Hospital ever since. In her spare time she likes to tour local distilleries with her husband, and her family enjoys camping at various state parks.

Sasha

Front Desk Staff

Sasha shares a home with an array of dogs, cats, birds, and reptiles. Her love of animals and an open position at Highland Animal Hospital got her into Vet Med. She proclaims she does not have any fun facts about herself, but anyone who has every met her would say otherwise. Her first job was bathing dogs for an in-home groomer in 8th grade.

Helen

Front Desk Staff

Helen is currently owned by 3 indoor cats along with a host of strays and ferals. She started in Vet Med after she found a sick kitten and wanted to learn as much as she could so she could help him and others like him. Helen is a Christmas junkie - movies, music, decorations - anything and everything Christmas. She loves to take photos, especially of cats.

Kennel Staff

Jery is currently down into the single digits when it comes to her cats, and previously owned and showed American saddle bred horses. Her love of caring for critters is what prompted her to get involved with Vet Med. She is also know as the cat whisperer. Prior to working in veterinary medicine she spent over 30 years as an art director in Chicago.

Paige

Paige and her Alaskan Malamute, Spooky like to go on hikes. She started in Vet Med as she wanted to be a veterinarian when she was younger. Aside from her passion for animals, Paige also has a love of cars.

Jennifer K.

Jennifer's canine companion Nikki had a love of chicken nuggets. The day her beloved Nikki passed away due to cancer, she decided she wanted to entrench her life in Vet Med as well as her desire to help save as many animals as possible. She enjoys playing soccer and video games.

Nora

Kennel Staff

Nora has a 12 year old dog name Holly. She began working at Highland Animal Hospital because she wanted to work with animals. She has a twin brother.

Sue

Sue has 2 cats that have been given a second chance at life with her. She began working in veterinary medicine at the request of a friend. She is a BIG Reba fan and has seen her in concert 17 times!

Jordan

Kennel Staff

Jordan has 3 female tabby cats - Honey, Fig, and Delilah - who, despite being similar in appearance have very different personalities. She has always had a strong attachment to animals that led to various roles including dog walking, doggy daycare, and proceeded to kennel attendant in adulthood. She has a slight obsession with game shows, trivia, and pop culture. While she is a dog breed encyclopedia, her feline knowledge extends to tabby, black, or fluffy.

Declan

Declan's grandmother's dog, Lucy, is a 6 year old Bernerdoodle who happens to be very energetic and playful. He felt working in Vet Med would be a fun and interesting job. He is distantly related to Thomas Jefferson, has a vast collection of CD's, and plays competitive pinball. Declan enjoys a variety of activities in his spare time including playing games, rollerblading, basketball, among others.

Jessica

Registered Veterinary Technician

Jessica has 4 cats ranging in age from 4 years to 17 years. Her love for animals started at a very young age and her early years at Highland Animal Hospital enforced her love of Vet Med.

She worked at Northwestern University training squirrel monkeys and rhesus macaques for neurophysiology research. Jessica obtained her Veterinary Technology degree and became a Registered Veterinary Technician in 2013.
